Internet Resources

Since we've been working with and on computers for so many years we decided that we would share some of our vast knowledge of where to go on the Web for what... ok, well, "vast knowledge" may be a bit of a stretch, really this is just a list of a few of the sites we use most often.

Finding Things

To find anything on the Internet you can just go to a search engine and search on the item, service or subject you want to find out about. Search engines are perfect for digging up information about any subject you want to find out about.

Here are the search engines we use:

http://www.teoma.com

For those of you who are new to the Web we recommend "Ask Jeeves" he's very user friendly.

Buying Things

Ok, imagine, if you will, sitting in your living room and realizing that you really do need to go out and buy that thing that you were supposed to buy last weekend but you just didn't get around to it... But it's the weekend and you don't really want to miss the game that's on, do you? Well, thanks to technology, you don't have to! You can find pretty much anything you have ever dreamed of owning right on your computer! Really, it's like having the Home Shopping Network at your fingertips 24 hours a day without having to watch the silly commercials!

When you want to get a great deal on things, we suggest you try these sites:

http://froogle.google.com/
This site is run by the "google gang" and will list out the items you search for by price, store, etc.

http://www.ebay.com
It's like a global yard sale! Right now you can get pretty much anything you want, new or used at an ebay auction!

http://www.amazon.com
This one we generally use for books but they do have other things, too. We especially like seeing what other people have to say about books before we buy them and having the choice of buying new or used books.

News

We don't like getting an overdose of "news" as it seems to mostly be "bad news" to us but when we need to know what is going on, we head over to the Drudgereport. He typically breaks stories before a lot of the other media outlets.

Google is another good source:

News Groups

Another incredible but often overlooked source for information are News groups. News groups are topic based forums where people help one another and discuss topics with other members of the forum. You can actively participate in the topics or just read the exchange of information. Often times, hard to find solutions to problems can be had here. Best of all, these forums are free at Google.

Well, there you have it. Not so "vast" after all! But it's a good start. If you have any sites you often frequent that you think should be added to our fine list, just shoot me over an email and we'll check it out. If we start using it, we'll add it to our list.
